Institute for Interdisciplinary Sustainability Research and Education (IISRE), New Delhi, India consists of a vibrant team of senior and junior scientists, sociologists, cartographers, engineers, consultants, academicians, and researchers. Our works are recognized by UNESCO and many of our representatives are associated to highly ranked organizations around the world. We explore a wide range of issues related to Sustainability such as climate change, water security, land use, resource utilization, food and energy, conservation, urban and rural communities, transport, social responsibilities of business and so on. We specialise in collaborative, participatory and action-oriented research that brings different stakeholders together to create a lasting change.
The IISRE currently focusing on the below-mentioned interdisciplinary research, teaching, and consultancy in-
- Climatic change and risk reduction – mainly focusing on community resilience and risk reduction through sustainable resource utilization
- Water Security – assessment and solution-oriented investigation, promotion of water infrastructure in dry land and mega cities
- Ecology and Environmental Rejuvenation and Management -land degradation & wasteland reclamations, forest conservation, and outreach among ecologists & environmentalists
- Sustainability and Capacity Building – natural resource management and citizen science through capacity building approach
- We create new knowledge and sustainable solutions through our integrated and interdisciplinary methods, i.e. through ecosystem modeling and sustainable land use involving citizen science.
- We would like to address the unavoidable linkages between the critical domains of the Water-Food-Energy Nexus.
- We are keen to address the gap in existing ‘silo’ practices in natural resources management and form an umbrella research & training hub where all the spheres of the society and environment would get equal importance along with the latest technological support.
- Ensuring minimal wastage of water and other natural resources would be our focus and we would continuously look for cost-reducing solutions so that governments and institutions also benefit from our research.
- We wish to provide new understanding, improved modeling tools, and enhanced community awareness for improved water management in water stress areas (especially arid and semi-arid regions).
- We are already working on Urban and per-urban water Security issues and would love to work in urban areas in the future.
- In the future, we would train a new generation of water and sustainability scientists better prepared to deal with integrated water systems and the human institutions that govern them.
- We would develop and implement systems that ensure research is made available to users in ways that will facilitate planning and decision-making.
- We endorse coastal and deltaic water security assessment and implement a comprehensive management framework.
- We propagate applications of emerging techniques for water resources development and management.
- We provide cost-effective R&D solutions to need-based natural resources-related problems.
- We provide scientific advice to the various stakeholders on natural resources management-related issues.
- We are capable of conducting user-defined demand-driven research through collaboration with national and international organizations to provide solutions to the field problems relevant to society.
- We are experienced in the transfer of technology/ knowledge dissemination by organizing training courses, workshops, seminars, symposiums, and conferences, for researchers, and students in the area of natural resources management.
- We are committed to developing expert trainers for the dissemination of advanced knowledge for benefit of the society.
